Other Government Resources

There are many sources of additional aid to attend college. These are a few government programs that may help you meet your education expenses.

Corporation for National and Community Service has information on community service opportunities and scholarship programs, such as the Presidential Freedom Scholarship for students who perform service in their community. Visit www.nationalservice.org for more information.

Active, Reserve, and Retired Military of all branches receive education benefits, including tuition assistance, work-study, and education savings plans. Assistance is also provided to survivors and dependents of military personnel who were disabled or died while on active duty. Visit www.gibill.va.gov for more information.

Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) provides scholarships and stipends to members who join and commit to serve in the military after completing college. Visit the following sites for more information:

Bureau of Indian Affairs provides scholarships to students who are more than one-quarter Indian and are registered members of a federally recognized Native American tribe. Native American students can apply for a BIA/OIEP Indian Education Grant through their tribe, home agency, or area Office of Indian Education. Visit www.oiep.bia.edu to learn more.

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services offers scholarship and assistantship programs to encourage students to pursue careers in healthcare. For information on the programs, visit www.hhs.gov/grants.
